ASX Investment Themes

63 custom investment themes — gold, uranium, AI, defence and more — with primary and secondary themes per stock. Far finer-grained than GICS sectors (we cover those too).

Every stock on the ASX is classified into our library of 63 curated investment themes — gold, uranium, lithium, AI, defence, datacenters, battery metals and more. Each theme is researched and maintained by us, not assembled by users, so the classification stays consistent across the whole market rather than depending on what any one person happens to tag. A company gets a primary theme reflecting its main business, plus secondary themes where it genuinely spans several — a diversified miner with both gold and lithium exposure, for example, shows up in both.

That structure means you can look at "ASX investment themes" the way the market actually trades them, not just the way accounting standards group them. When uranium developers are running hard while the broader materials sector sits flat, theme-level tracking shows it immediately — a distinction a plain sector view can't make.

Finer-grained than GICS

GICS gives you 11 broad sectors and 25 industry groups — useful, but too coarse to capture what actually drives many ASX stocks. A uranium developer and a gold producer are both filed under "Materials", even though almost nothing about their businesses moves together. Our investment themes add the resolution GICS lacks, grouping stocks by what's genuinely driving them rather than by the accounting-standard bucket they happen to sit in.

This isn't a replacement for GICS — we provide full GICS sector analysis as well, so you can work from either lens depending on what you need.

Theme momentum and relative strength

Every theme is tracked as its own index against the ASX 200, so you can see at a glance which themes are leading the market and which are lagging behind it. Within each theme, stock-level relative strength and short-term relative strength show which names are leading that theme — the two views together take you from "which themes are hot" down to "which stocks within them are actually leading." Theme-level relative strength is available on our paid plans.

Questions & Answers

How are stocks assigned to themes?

Every stock is researched and classified by us against the theme library, with a primary theme and secondary themes where a company genuinely spans several. Classifications are reviewed as new stocks list and as businesses change, so the coverage keeps pace with the market.

Do you still cover GICS sectors?

Yes. Full GICS sector analysis sits alongside the themes — the themes add resolution on top of it, not instead of it.

Is this financial advice?

No. Theme classifications and rankings are general information only, not personal financial advice, and not a recommendation to buy or sell any security.
